The Mall Group Chairwoman Supaluck Umpujh selected an honoree of 2021 Women Leaders in AI

IBM’s annual Women Leaders in AI program celebrates more than 40 global women leaders from 18 countries using AI to drive better outcomes and shaping the future of AI for business

Bangkok, Thailand  : IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Supaluck Umpujh, the chairwoman of The Mall Group, is selected as an honoree of the Women Leaders in AI this year. As the first and only honoree from Thailand, and one out of two honorees from ASEAN, Supaluck has been selected together with 40 exceptional female business leaders from 18 countries around the world where she is recognized for pioneering the use of AI to drive the business transformation as well as growth and innovation in the retail industry.

The recognition celebrates Supaluck’s leadership for The Mall Group in leveraging IBM’s AI technology to improve efficiency in business processes and driven greater personalized shopping experience for its clients across the The Mall, The Emporium, The Emquartier, Paragon Department Store and Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall. Being the first retail chain in Thailand to adopt AI, The Mall Group has used the technology to better understand the changing behaviors and trends of consumers and derive real-time insights from its extensive shopping databases, which include its M Card (over 4M customers) and its SCB M VISA program (over 600,000 customers).

IBM created the annual Women Leaders in AI program in 2019 to help provide visibility to women leading in AI, encourage increased diverse participation in the field, and provide honorees a network for shared learning. Recognizing leaders on the forefront of developing and deploying AI at scale and learning from their experiences in building AI that’s inclusive, fair, and explainable becomes even more important as the industry works to emerge more resilient from the pandemic. The 40 leaders recognized in 2021 were selected based upon the ways they are using AI as a transformation agent to help drive results for their organizations and the employees, customers, and citizens they serve.

“We are at the tipping point of the new era of retail, and technology is clearly the most important ingredient in this winning formula,” said Supaluck Umpujh, Chairwoman of The Mall Group Co., Ltd. “The Mall Group wants to be the Retail-tainment lifestore destination that provides the limitless anywhere anytime personalized shopping experience for everyone in the family. AI is today a key that helps us make seamless shopping experience possible for our customers, be it at stores, online at home or via their smartphones.”

“As AI is at the forefront of the business transformation, our female leaders represent today the light of diverse capabilities that is shining and driving the progressive use of AI across industries,” said Patama Chantaruck, Vice President for Indochina Expansion and Managing Director of IBM Thailand. “Despite the hardships that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought on businesses around the world, the success and innovative AI use cases of this year’s honorees become an inspiration for all of us to overcome any challenges and thrive in 2021.”

From working to put trusted health information at the fingertips of citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic to working on projects to help tackle the challenges of climate change, the 2021 honorees are demonstrating how advancements in natural language processing, automation and trustworthy AI can be used to better predict outcomes, automate processes and drive new efficiencies.
